I began work for NEWSIES in late march of 2019, and things flew by. Auditions were May 6th & 7th and callbacks were the 9th. That "rapid fire" conditioning was the standard for the continuation of the process. With Jack-Anthony Ina at the reigns as director and music director, and Rachel Maria Ines as choreographer, things were swift and expectations high! Starting with choreo and working our way through music and finally scene work, it was no time at all before tech week rolled around.
THE PROCESS
Jack-Anthony Ina: Director
Jack was our director, and also our music director, and scenic and fight choreographer. On top of all of that he still manages to bring life, class, and creation to the artistic stage. He never misses a beat and his professional disciplines are never ending.
Rachel Maria Ines: Choreographer
Rachel was our multitalented choreographer. She created a whole new concept for the dances in Newsies. She herself also has many discipline in the theatrical arts so she was able to bring a new take to many other moments in the show, while making the work environment educational and entertaining.
Alyssa Waag: Assistant Director
Alyssa was our youngest staff member, being 18. Don't let her age fool you, she is professional all the way and assisted in any way she could. She even conducted music for many of the performances. She brought out the best in us and was overall a joy to work with.
Josh Scalish: Assistant Stage Manager
Josh Scalish, a baseball player by trade, stepped into the role at last second. He helped with every assignment possible and his work ethic is beyond fantastic. He comes highly recommended by the whole production staff
